How did Job answer God? Read Job 40:1-5 aloud Read job 40:7-41:34 with a partner Behemoth? Hippo? Elephant? Leviathan? Crocodile? What do these verses tell us about Job’s relationship to God? What can God do that Job cannot? Read Job 42:1-6 What was Job saying here?

Read Job 42:7-17 What did God instruct Eliphaz to do? What did Job have to do?

Epilogue: Holding Onto Faith (lesson 7) What six things happen regarding Job’s situation of suffering? Job understands that God is SOVEREIGN over all creation. Job understands that God is WORTHY of WORSHIP in all circumstances. Job learns how to TRUST in God’s goodness and power, even in his trial. God REBUKES Job’s three friends to failing to speak rightly about him. No mention I made of ELIHU. Job ACCEPTS his suffering and FORGIVES/PRAYS FOR his three friends.

Journal #4-Forgiveness Letter Has a friend ever falsely accused you of doing something wrong? Is there someone you need to forgive just as Job did? Or is there someone of whom you need to ask forgiveness, just as Job’s friends stood in need of the forgiveness of their friend? Prompt: Write a letter of forgiveness or a letter requesting forgiveness.

Journal #5 After reading the Book of Job, how do you feel? What were some of the concerns you had at the beginning of the study? In light of what you have learned, how do you feel about this issue and about God now? What have you learned on the basis both of Job’s suffering and of his continued trust in God? Through this study, what have you learned about God’s character? What have you learned about yourself? How will you respond to God in both good times and in bad?
