Presentation transcript:

Ideas for Martian environment models and further G4 development : input from L.Desorgher Building of a user friendly and modular magnetic shielding tool based on GEANT4 that could be implemented easily in any kind of GEANT4 application. Make an extended study on the possibility to use magnetic shielding for planetary manned mission ( in space and for habitat). Extend the GEANT4 ion hadronic interaction models to energy > 10-20 GeV/nuc . Propose realistic engineer oriented radiation fluence models of cosmic rays, solar energetic particles, and Jovian electrons, on Mars and for the travel to Mars. These models should be based on existing theoretical and statistical models and space radiation experiment measurements (SREM, PROBA, MARIE, ....). Build analytical models of flux of backscaterring radiation (neutron, gamma, ...) on Mars by using existing Mars GEANT4 radiation application and Martian experiment measurements (Mars odyssey neutron and gamma spectrometer ...)

Ideas (2) Study the impact of relief and soil on radiation level on Mars. Intensify the already existing GEANT4 studies on impact of radiation on human. Evaluate and select less risky places for habitation on Mars, in term of natural shielding (atmosphere, crustal field, and relief) Evaluate and select multi-purpose materials and structures, i.e. Materials that serve equally well for space travel, ground activity and habitation at Mars, and radiation protection.... Evaluate CR interactions with habitations and atmosphere therein (above ground and underground), including desing effects of habitations (water storage etc). Extend the user interface capability of GEANT4 in order to run any G4 application as a www application.
