Desert A desert is a very dry area. It doesn’t get much rain.

Painted Desert The Painted Desert is located along the Colorado River in north central Arizona. It got its name from Spanish explorers. It is very colorful especially at sunrise and sunset because heat and light seem to make it change colors. The colors come from the iron ore in the sand.
