Have you ever been to a carnival? Were people selling anything there? Angie liked the autumn season. She liked the cool weather. It meant school was starting. Her school always had a carnival during autumn. Everyone went to the carnival. Angie wanted to make this year’s carnival special. She had an idea. Every year Angie’s Aunt Sarah had a stall at the carnival. Aunt Sarah always sold stuffed toys. She made them herself. Angie wanted to sell something she had made, too. Have you ever been to a carnival? Were people selling anything there?

Aunt Sarah had craft sticks that Angie could use Aunt Sarah had craft sticks that Angie could use. Angie found all kinds of things to make bookmarks. She had some old buttons, felt, markers, glue and construction paper. Angie got to work right away. She made bookmarks that looked like bunny rabbits, frogs, cats, dogs, footballs, and basketballs. She also made some bookmarks with silly arms, legs, and funny faces. Angie had a shoebox full of bookmarks when she was finished. She thought that would be enough for the carnival. Angie decided to sell them for 50 cents each. What did Angie make and sell? How do you think she felt about the things she made?

The carnival’s first day was exciting The carnival’s first day was exciting! Angie woke up early so she could help set up the stall at the carnival. Angie placed her bookmarks near the front. Aunt Sarah placed her stuffed animals on the table in the middle of the stall. When they finished setting up the stall, Aunt Sarah showed Angie what 50 cents looks like.

Aunt Sarah showed Angie five types of coins Aunt Sarah showed Angie five types of coins. The little gold coin is a 5 cents. The little silver coin is a 10 cents, the next bigger size is 20 cents, the biggest silver is 50 cents. The biggest gold coin is a dollar. Aunt Sarah told Angie that 50 cents can be just one coin, but 50 cents can also be two 20 cents and a 10 cent coin. Sometimes 50 cents looks like five 10 cents but it can also look like ten 5 cents.

On the last day of the carnival, Angie sold her last bookmark On the last day of the carnival, Angie sold her last bookmark. Her Aunt Sarah helped her count the money she had earned. Angie had earned $8. She was very excited. Angie used some of her money to ride the Ferris Wheel and the Merry-Go-Round.
