Transparent Transparent materials let light pass through them in straight lines, so that you can see clearly through them. Examples: Eye glasses A window.
 All light is a form of energy. That’s because light “radiates”, or spreads out, in all directions from its source. (Such as a light bulb or star).

Ch. 20: Transparent, Translucent, and Opaque Materials Vocabulary: transparent, translucent, opaque

Transparent Materials When light passes straight through a material, that material is transparent. Transparent materials you can see completely through.

Translucent Materials Translucent materials scatter light as it passes through them. You cannot see through translucent materials, but light will pass through them.

Opaque Materials Opaque materials do not allow any light to pass through them. All light that comes into contact with an opaque material is either reflected or absorbed. Opaque materials make a show when you shine light on them.

Questions About Chapter 20 Write down the names of three transparent objects. Write down the names of three translucent objects. Write down the names of three opaque objects. What word describes a clear glass window? What word describes a block of wood? What word describes a piece of wax paper?
