Food and the Environment

Our topic is: FOOD AND THE ENVIRONMENT We have been learning how buying local food can benefit the environment. We hope we can convince you too!!

First of all, you should buy local because transporting food from other countries means we burn lots of fossil fuels. Here is some more information.

What are Fossil Fuels? Fossil Fuels are dead animals and plants buried under ground for about 650 million years. It usually turns in to oil, gas and coal which is used in our clothes, Petrol and much more.

What impact does fossil fuels have on earth? Since Petrol is something made from fossil fuels we burn fuel when we transport food on vehicles which is damaging our environment and causing global warming.

How important is food and the environment? Food and the environment is very important because we transport food a lot on planes, cars/trucks, boats which damages earth.

The message is: Buy Food Locally!!!!!!

We also looked at other benefits of buying local We also looked at other benefits of buying local. We decided to write a rap to convince you that buying local is best.

I BUY LOCAL AND YOU KNOW IT P4/5 You come face to face and you get a better taste It’s better for you And you know what’s in it too

Good for the planet No fossil fuels to harm our earth Buy from your farmer Show them their worth

Come look at my farm, girl Come look at my farm, boy Come look at my farm, girl I grow crops!

I buy local, and you know it! When I walk in the supermarket, this is what I see. All those foreign foods are starin' at me, I got fresh produce in my basket and I ain't afraid to show it... I buy local, and you know it!

Your taste buds won’t be harmed. When I’m at the shops people tell me to buy some squash I say where’s it from Brazil I tell them, it is wrong Too far away, no squash for me today I say buy from your farm, Your taste buds won’t be harmed.
