Speak By: Laurie Halse Anderson

What is Speak & What's it about? Speak is a book based on a girl named Melinda. She is now entering high school but is hated by her ex- best friends. One day, Melinda and her friends went to a summer party. Whatever occurred in that party,it made Melinda go mute and not able to speak out about what had happened. Who hurted her and what exactly happened that night?

Why should I read Speak? There are many reasons you should read Speak or reading in general. You won't be able to put it down. This book is so great because the suspense and drama it contains. Speak is also based on a very controversial topic. Another reason would be that this book contains advanced vocabulary that could enhance your reading abilities.

Can this happen in real life? Anything can happen in real life. One of those things is Rape. Rape happens everywhere and it even happened to Melinda. Rape makes people go mute and not able to report it. On the next slide will be some statistics about Rape.

Statistics about Rape 1 out of every 6 American women has been the victim of an attempted or completed rape in her lifetime (14.8% completed rape; 2.8% attempted rape).
