Inclusive Education Practices in NUOL (Higher Education in Laos) The progress of implementation Keys to the progress Challenges Further Action Plans

The progress (2015-2016) 1. Awareness raising about inclusive education Organized workshop to raise the leaders and staff members of all faculties in NUOL’ awareness and understanding about inclusive education 2. Capacity building Organized Braille reading and O&M training workshop for teaching staff of the Faculty of Letters

The progress (2015-2016) 3. Teaching and Learning Resource Development Established an inclusive education Resource Centre Set up inclusive education studio room 4. Teaching-Learning materials production Converted 6 main subjects of year 1 textbooks and produced 78 Braille textbooks to support the blind and partially sighted students, 7 main textbooks of year 2 being converted, and 2 main textbooks of year 2 being recorded.

Keys to the progress Government and NUOL leaders supports, Very close attention and supports of IE-NUOL and FLE committee, Very close attention and supports of the FLE Deans, Inclusive Education Centre and LAB supports, ICEVI technical and financial supports, Very hard work of staff members of Dept. of English

Challenges Produce learning materials for students with visual impairment. Train teaching staff specializing on education of students with visual impairment, Looking for Braille and Daisy specialists, Find out information and statistics of students with visual impairment, Raise the awareness or encourage any organization, employers, parents and society to cognizant and understand the education of the kids with visual impairment, Inadequate and insufficient learning environment and location, More students with visual impairment are coming, Training Braille for others faculty staff members.

Further Action Plans Organize Braille reading and writing training workshop for teaching staff of targeted faculties within NUOL, Produce promotional media tools for raising the public awareness and understanding about education of students with visual impairment, Daisy production (some printed subjects can't be converted to Braille) Train staff specializing on Braille and Daisy (with CFBT)
