The adventure of the octal counting octopus By: Neil Shah, Shiven Patel, and Umair Siddiqui

History of the base 8 The civilization of the Yuki used the base of 8 system first to count between their fingers The Europeans first started to use it in 1668, by John Wilkins Then in 1716 King Charles XII to make base 64 but the people changed it to base 8, saying it was too big

MOVIES AND TV SHOWS In the famous 2009 film Avatar, the language of the extraterrestrial Na’vi race employs an octal numeral system, probably due to the fact that they have four fingers on each hand. In the laptop game series Warhammer 40,000 the Tau race use and octal number system. Motorola uses base 8 a lot in their phones

Multiplying in base 8

OPERATIONS Addition 36+27=65 Subtraction 54-37=15 Multiplication 6x6=44 5x4=24 7x7=61

The story!!!! Once upon a time there is a octopus who only had 8 tentacles and only 8 fingers on each tentacle. All of has other friends have 10 fingers on Each tentacles. So in math class when they had to add, subtract, multiply, and divide!! He base to use the base of 8 and he had to change all of the numbers into base of 8 numbers. It took a long time to convert all the numbers to the right numbers. But later one he got so good at it he got a nickname. It was “The Octal Counting Octopus”.
