The Who, What, When, Where and Why During the Age of Imperialism

Objective: Create a PowerPoint that answers the Who, What, When, Where and Why of the Age of Imperialism. Directions: Specifically address these topics in proper paragraph form: Topic 1 = “Who” – Which nations were Imperialist? Which areas were conquered or became colonies? You chose how many to include. Topic 2 = “What” – Define Imperialism and other related terms. What other terms should you include? Topic 3 = “When” – Give specific dates. For example, who was first to set up a colony in Africa? Come up with “milestone” years. (Example, what year could you say Africa was almost completely claimed by European powers?) Topic 4 = “Where?” – Think geography. Include maps. Where was this happening? Do not just mention Africa, where else in the world? Topic 5 = “Why?” – You must know the definition and explain the meaning of the term “motive.” Why else did Europe do this? Use your notes here also. Topic 6 = Primary Resource picture analysis – Find a primary resource picture (NOT shown in class) and give a 2-3 sentence analysis about what’s going on, who the intended audience is, and how it portrays the Age of Imperialism.

More Directions: Each topic needs to have 1-2 proper paragraphs. It is up to you to determine what a proper paragraph is. Each topic also needs 2-3 pictures at the bottom. You may include colorful background, animations, clip art, etc. but not until your paragraphs are complete. Start at Mr. Pruett’s webpage, use the starting links provided, and go from there.

Resources: Your powerpoint also needs to include a works cited slide Resources: Your powerpoint also needs to include a works cited slide.
