Today we will acquire and use academic vocabulary Objective Rationale Today we will acquire and use academic vocabulary Increasing our use of vocabulary will increase our comprehension and writing skills. Acquire and use accurately grade-appropriate general academic and domain-specific words and phrases; gather vocabulary knowledge when considering a word or phrase important to comprehension or expression. Impartial (adj) Not favoring one side more than another; fair If you want to be an umpire, you’ll need to be impartial.

Industrious (adj) Hard-working; not lazy Ants are an extremely industrious insect.

Infuriate (verb) To make very angry SpongeBob has a way of infuriating Squidward.

Irrelevant (adj) Having nothing to do with the subject Bruno Mar’s looks are irrelevant to the fact that he is a very talented singer and song writer.

Precise (adj) Exact accurate Precision (noun) exactness When building a house, builders need to use precise measurements.

Sham (noun) Something fake or false Adj-not genuine Verb-to pretend Their offer to make us rich turned out to be a sham. Although he tried to appear sorry, his sham apology fooled no one. Ferris shammed an illness, so he could stay home.

Trek (noun/verb) Noun-a long slow difficult journey Verb-to travel slowly and with difficulty Thousands of men have attempted the trek up Mt. Everest, and 4, 469 of them have succeeded.

Should a judge be impartial in a courtroom? Would you call yourself an industrious person on the weekends? What could a sibling do that would infuriate you? Do you think class behavior should be irrelevant to your grades? Which vocabulary word from the past is an antonym for precise? If something is to good to be true it is probably a sham. True or False? Have you ever had to trek home from school on a hot day?
