What is an Interview? A somewhat formal discussion between a hirer and an applicant or candidate, typically in person, in which information is exchanged, with the intention of establishing the applicant's suitability for a position.

Preparation Do your homework Job description, specification & advert Essential criteria List skills and qualities needed Relate these to your experiences Know your own CV/portfolio Learn about the company/organisation Company website (and related sector/organisations) Social media Newspapers, magazines etc. Speak to people within the company Leaflets, brochures etc. Find out about the interview Will you be given a tour? Will you have to give a presentation? Will you have to sit a test (written/practical)?

Preparation (cont) Think about the questions you might be asked Related to the role Think of personal examples Experiences you have demonstrated skills/qualities Prepare and practice answers/presentation Think of questions you would like answered Route Planning Know where you are going How are you going to get there? How long will it take you? Practice run (if required) Day of the interview Make sure you are rested Get up early and make sure you are awake Dress smartly and/or appropriately Confirm you know your route Arrive 5 – 15 minutes early DON’T BE LATE
