Overview of Project Name of site: Apartment construction site Construction period: Jun. 2006 ~ Oct. 2008 Scope: 12 apartment buildings with 2 underground and 15 above ground floors Expense: 92,000 million KRW Progress: 81% Main process: Internal finishing work (plastering) Damage: One death

Overview of Accident | Overview Details Cause Prevention Grave Accidents | Overview Details Cause Prevention When: Jan. 30 (Wed.), 2008, 10:43 Where: Building construction site  Who: Victim, employee of a contractor (47 y.o. male, curtain wall worker) What: The victim was making a base plate concrete mold for lower floors. How: A yoke of the system shore at a high floor (16th) fell and hit the victim on the head and he was sent to a hospital. Why: The victim died on Feb. 8 (Fri.), 2008 at 06:40. 2. Details of Accident On the day of the accident at 7:10, 10 workers including the victim, all employees of a contractor, began plastering 3-4 and 5-6 lines of building No. 101 and the underground level. The victim was working alone doing gap filling work within units on the 8th floor of the 3-4 lines and coming down via the stairs. ※ Gap-filling - Filling mortar between the windows and building structure and finishing by plastering ※ Method used by the victim He had a cart loaded with mortar and worked floor by floor while moving down by elevator.

| Overview Details Cause Prevention Grave Accidents | Overview Details Cause Prevention At 10:00, the victim finished the 6th floor and pushed his cart through the stairs to reach the 5th floor. - Due to the heavy weight of the cart (40~50kg including mortar) he lost his grip of the cart. - The cart struck the stair landing and rebounded and the cart handle hit the victim’s side sharply. - The victim was sent to a hospital for treatment, but died on Jun. 5 (Thu.), 2008 at 20:22. ※ The victim intended to use the elevator to go to the 5th floor, but could not do so because another worker was using it. So, the victim chose to use the stairs instead.

Cause of Accident Improper carriage with a cart 1  A cart should only be used on a level, smooth surface. However, the victim was trying to push it through the stairs while it was heavily loaded with mortar for gap-filling work, resulting in the accident.
