Guest: Say hello, what your name is, and nice to meet you. Host: Exclaim what a large suitcase they have, using a color. Guest: Explain what you have in suitcase (use colors and other adjectives). Host: Ask guest if they have a surprise. Guest: Yes, you have a surprise in your suitcase. It’s an animal with a color and another adjective.

Guest: You have just arrived in Russia. Get acquainted with your host. State your name, profession, where you live, and where you study. Host: Make up your Russian name and patronymic. State your profession and welcome your guest. Guest: Show your suitcase. Explain what you have brought with you, including adjectives. Host: Show the room to the guest, point out some of the furniture, and introduce the people and animals who live in the house.

You are unpacking at your host’s home and showing off your technological gadgets. Your host, who is simultaneously geeky and insecure, responds by bragging about his gadgets: in his opinion, your television is small and his is large, your notebook computer is ugly and his is beautiful, your cassette player is American and his is Russian, etc. (Other areas of contention are old and new, good and bad, and interesting and boring.)

You’re on a fantasy shopping spree for new clothing. Converse with your shopping buddy about all of the clothing you see, pointing out different garments and commenting on the color and other qualities (good/bad, new/old, big/small, beautiful/ugly, interesting/boring, Russian/American).

You are a bilingual Russian student greeting an American student at the airport. Your father, who is with you, doesn’t speak English and the American student speaks very little Russian, so you have to act as translator. Your father starts the conversation, and the American student’s part is as follows: Thank you! Nice to meet you! My coat? Here it is. This little suitcase is mine. The big suitcase is mine, too. Clothes and books … My computer, camera, and presents. It’s a surprise. Oh, you have a surprise, too? What sort of surprise do you have?
