City/Town of Geneva and Proposed Collaborations and Shared Services Fall Independent Study Urban Studies Simon Corson MAPS RESULTS BACKGROUND Town and City of Geneva -City Manager Matt Horn and Town Supervisor Mark Venuti -Expressed interest in having HWS student do a comprehensive report. Hobart and William Smith Colleges -CCESL Director Katie Flowers and Professor Alan Frishman -Willing to work with HWS student to complete report. -In the Town and City of Geneva, I conducted forty interviews as well as job description analyses and a 2015 budget comparison. -On November 19th, 2014, I presented my findings at the inaugural meeting between the Town Board and the City Council. -Matt Horn, Mark Venuti and I prepared three resolutions to create work groups that include City Council and Town Board members as well as City and Town staff. -All three resolutions were passed, and my presentation can be found on the City and Town’s websites. The Town Board and City Council reviewed my paper in January, 2015. PURPOSE -This paper has detailed descriptions of how the Town of Geneva and City of Geneva could share services and collaborate in the future. -The research methods used were depth interviews, a 2015 Budget comparison, and a job description analyses. -Suggestions for joint planning include the topics of sewage, drainage, drinking water systems, transportation, fire and police public safety, equipment purchasing, economic development, housing, and recreation.
