GOALS FOR TODAY’S SESSION Provide Academic Advisors with: a general overview of transfer process answers to common transfer questions and issues specific transfer information for top 4 transfer schools Rutgers Kean Montclair NJIT an opportunity for Q&A

GENERAL TRANSFER INFORMATION What is the transfer process for students? Identifying major to acceptance notification Please refer to “Your Transfer Made Painless” handout Admissions decisions: Based on student’s transcript up to last semester completed before applying Acceptance is contingent upon receipt of final transcripts There is no one policy- Transfer policies vary by colleges and majors and often change.

GENERAL TRANSFER INFORMATION 4-yr colleges reserve the right to change academic policies affecting transfer at any time. Free electives are important Satisfy BA/BS requirements Our Biology, Chemistry, Engineering Science transfer very well. Forensic Science requires Science Transfer Chemistry The Bachelors Degree is made up of: Major, General Education, and Free Electives.

GPA Requirements: 3.2 (RC, LC, DC) 2.5 University College Transfer Student: H.S. graduate & completed at least 12 creds. before entering RU. SAT’S are not required in this case.

RUTGERS Must have Algebra 2 (MAT014) proficiency MAT 123/124 or higher – best for day divisions: Rutgers College, Livingston College, & Douglass College Foreign Language: do not repeat same language & level at MCC studied in HS. RU wants new learning experience If taking same language as in HS, start at intermediate level at MCC or take different language Psychology Major: Pre-calc. required

RUTGERS PED does not transfer. Distinctions between colleges of RU Satisfies MCC graduation requirements It’s only 1 credit Business majors may consider golf! Distinctions between colleges of RU Douglass, Livingston, Rutgers, University, & Cook Colleges

RUTGERS DOUGLASS COLLEGE Women’s college Requires 6 creds. related to experience of women. MCC courses: History of Women, Psych. of Women, & Marriage and Family satisfy this requirement. ENG 125 satisfies second English writing course for Gen. Ed. Requirements. Courses satisfying SS & HUM Gen. Ed. Req’s. can be from different disciplines.

RUTGERS LIVINGSTON COLLEGE Emphasis in Core Distribution Requirements is on breadth of knowledge = MCC courses used to satisfy Humanities & Social Sciences should be from different departments Ex.: if student takes PSY 123, second SS Elec. should be a SOC or POS.

RUTGERS RUTGERS COLLEGE Emphasis on Core Requirements is on depth of knowledge: Wants 2 courses from same discipline for Natural Science, Social Science, & Humanities requirements. Ex.: If choose BIO 105, second science should be BIO If SOC 121, second SS Elec. should be SOC If PHI 121, second HUM Elec. should be PHI Students must complete a minor.

RUTGERS UNIVERSITY COLLEGE Admits transfer students if applicant’s cum. gpa for a minimum of 24 creds. = 2.5 or higher. Applicants who have completed the Associate Degree with minimum gpa of 2.0 are automatically admitted. Core Requirements: encourages courses from different disciplines - can take max. 2 courses from same discipline to satisfy the 9 cred. requirement in each: HUM, SS, Math & Natural Science.

RUTGERS COOK COLLEGE For students interested in the sciences Students who choose a non-science major (Communication, Journalism), must complete a minor or cert. prog. offered by Cook (Animal Science, Entomology). Core Requirements: Life & Physical Sciences (7-13 creds.) Life Sciences: (choose one pair) BIO 117+118 or BIO 123+124 AND Physical Sciences: (choose one) CHM 117, CHM 123, 124; PHY 101, 115, 121, 131; SCI 155, 157 Courses used to satisfy other HUM & SS requirements can be from different disciplines.

RUTGERS School of Arts & Sciences (SAS) Effective Fall ’07: Douglass, Livingston, Rutgers, & University Colleges – combining to create: School of Arts & Sciences (SAS) Cook College is now the School of Environmental & Biological Sciences (SEBS) Core requirements remain unchanged from current core All majors remain the same Students should finish Math & Science while at MCC 5 residential campus options available: Busch, College Ave.,Cook, Douglass, & Livingston SAS students must complete a minor.

RUTGERS School of Arts & Sciences (SAS) cont. Douglass Residential College: still dedicated to advancement of women, providing a unique women-focused experience: Women’s leadership courses & Jr. Year Externship Program Language/cultural houses & SR. Year E-Portfolio Women will have option of becoming formally affiliated with Douglass upon accepting offer of admission to RU – SAS. SAS Core Requirements (a work in progress): Writing (6 creds.) – ENG 121 & 122 or 125 transfer Quantitative Reasoning (6 creds.) – MAT 123 or higher Natural Sciences (6 creds.) – do not have to be sequential & can be from different depts. Social Science, Humanities, Interdisciplinary (12 creds.) – at least 1 course must be taken from each of the 3 disciplines. Diversity (3 creds.) Global Awareness (3 creds.)

RUTGERS School of Arts & Sciences (SAS) cont. Per RU: “The new SAS Core Requirements are such that virtually all courses recommended for a transfer program to one of the previous liberal arts colleges (Douglass, Livingston, Rutgers, & University College – will fit into the new requirements, although the courses may be in different categories.” SAS changes will not affect students transferring to RU for Spring ’07. SAS changes will take effect beginning with entering class for Fall ’07.

RU Business School New Brunswick No changes as far as the new SAS Admits in the fall term only. Concentrations: Management, Finance, Accounting, MIS, or Marketing Liberal Arts – Business works best. Students must first be admitted to SAS before applying to Business School. Prerequisites for admission: Competitive admission requiring 3.2 gpa or higher. At least 54 college credits MAT 131, MAT 285, ACC 101 & 102, ECO 201 & 202, and CSC 106 – all with C or better

RU School of Management Newark Concentrations in: Accounting, Finance, Management, or Marketing Business Law II (BUS 202)-required of ACC majors for graduation (a BN Business Elec.) Liberal Arts-Business or Business Admin. may transfer. Prerequisites for admission: At least 56 college credits MAT 129, ACC 101 & 102, ECO 201 & 202, and MAT 124-all with C or better.

KEAN UNIVERSITY MCC is Kean’s #1 feeder school Requires at least 2.0 gpa Average gpa of transfer: approx. 2.6 Transfer students – required to have 15 college credits for admission consideration If transferring with 30+ credits, SAT’s not required.

KEAN UNIVERSITY NJ Endorsements below high school level: P-3 (Early Childhood), K-5 (Elementary), & 5-8 (Elementary w/ subject matter certification) Elementary Education: 2.75 cum. gpa is state requirement for all levels Grade of B- or higher required in: SPE 121, ENG 121, HIS 221, one MAT course, BIO xxx, PSY 226, & EDU 280 ENG 225 or 226 is now emphasized over ENG 212. Early Childhood: Grade of C or better required in: SPE 121, ENG 121, MAT xxx, BIO xxx, & EDU 280. Take ART 105, 109,110, 201, or 202 ENG 212 is ok here.

KEAN UNIVERSITY Teacher Cert. for all levels - requires completion of one 4 cred. BIO course – choose BIO106, 117, or 123. Education Practitioner works very well because of free elective space.

Transfer Student Requirements: 2.5 GPA + 15 credits of college level work ENG 121 completed with C or higher Average accepted transfer student has 2.75 or higher GPA w/ min. of 2 semesters of strong academic work. If student has completed 24 college creds.,SAT’s & high school trans. not required.

Offers Business Administration w/ concentrations in: Accounting, Finance, Economics, Int’l. Business, Mgmt., MIS, Mktg., Quantitative Methods, & Retail Merchandising & Mgmt. Transfer Agreement: Associate Degree completed in either Bus. Admin. or LA-Bus. with 3.0 GPA.

School of Business Admission Requirements: MAT 131, either ECO 201 or 202, and both ENG 121 & 122 with a B- at MCC or Montclair. Teacher Education – 2.75 cum. gpa Admission as fully accepted candidate based on completion of Assoc. Degree at MCC and: SPE 121, PSY 123, PSY 226, EDU 280, & EDU 121 with C or better.

Teacher Education (cont.) Completion of 9 credits of courses within the academic major MCC’s Liberal Arts – Education or General option is best for transfer.

Transfer student requirements: At least 15 college credits including ENG 121, a Math class (Pre-calculus is required of most majors). At least a 2.5 cumulative gpa If less than 30 college credits, HS transcript required

Transfer Agreement: MCC graduates with 2.0 gpa are guaranteed admission in the following: MCC NJIT A.S. Computer Science. B.A. Computer Science A.S. Engineering Science B.S. Engineering Science A.S.
