The main idea of a story is what the story is mostly about.

Cause and Effect The cause is the girl swings the club and hits the ball. The effect is the ball moves. A cause is something that makes something else happen. An effect is what happens.

Next close the sandwich. The order that events take place is called Sequence. Words like first, next and last help readers figure out the order of events. The reason an author writes a story is called Author’s Purpose. Authors may write to explain something or give information. Authors may write to be funny or to entertain readers.
