SELF MANAGEMENT Let’s Stay Safe

Hi there everybody. My name is Self Management Man. It is my mission to ensure that all children become brilliant at managing themselves and learning how to keep themselves safe. I wondered if you were up to another CHALLENGE!!!!!

Can you remember what Self Management is? Why is it so important?

Here is a reminder of what Self Management is Am I a good self manager? Why is it important? I can organise myself. I can get the things I need and can come up with a plan I persevere to complete a challenge. I keep trying even when I get stuck I think about what skills I have and what I know already and use these to solve problems. I try to solve problems by myself but I know how to find things out if I am unsure. Becoming independent is really important. Doing things by yourself helps you feel more grown up. Making sure you have the things you need ready when you need them means learning time isn’t wasted and you are organised ready for any challenge. Being able to persevere and not give up when problems arise means you will meet your goals and feel very proud of yourself when you complete a challenge.

So tell us Self Manager Man… What’s the challenge?

I am REALLY worried… I don’t know if you have noticed but Autumn has arrived and soon it will be Winter. It is starting to get darker earlier and I have realised that soon it will be Halloween. I am frightened that boys and girls might be going out trick or treating near busy roads in the dark. I AM SO WORRIED!

Here is the challenge I wonder if you could all have a go at designing a really brilliant Halloween costume. In order to keep children bright and seen you need to think about making the costume easy for car drivers to see.

Here are a few ideas..

How about… A witch costume with built in light bulbs that will make it really easy for drivers to see the child wearing it.

How about… Decorating your costume with glow in the dark bands.

Add a torch or lantern to your outfit.

Make your outfit really bright

Children in Nursery and Reception It would be brilliant if you could draw a picture of a really colourful Halloween costume. The brighter the better.

Children in Key Stage 1 and 2 Fairy lights in the top of the hat Your job is to design a totally brilliant Halloween costume. You have to draw, decorate and label your design. YOU MUST EXPLAIN HOW YOUR COSTUME WILL KEEP CHILDREN BRIGHT AND SEEN. Walking stick with a torch in the top Silver glow in the dark trousers

If you enter the competition… When you hand in your homework you will receive a certificate from me to say thank you. We will also have a 1st and a 2nd prize for the best costumes from Key Stage 2, Key Stage 1 and Nursery and Reception.

GOOD LUCK SELF MANAGE AND KEEP SAFE!!!
