Romans 1:1-4 (ESV) 1 Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God, 2  which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy Scriptures, 3  concerning his Son, who was descended from David according to the flesh 4  and was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord,

Romans 6:4 (ESV) 4  We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.

Jesus’ deity – Romans 1:4 All who believe in Jesus are justified before God – Romans 4:25. The believer in Jesus can have supernatural victory over sin in this life – Romans 6:4. Jesus’ resurrection is evidence of our own resurrection and heaven.

A Great Bequest John 20:17-20 Application 1 The fourth reason that Jesus’ resurrection is good news is because it demands a lifesaving response in faith from each of us – Mark 16:11.

Mark 16:11 (ESV) 11  But when they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, they would not believe it.

A Great Bequest John 20:17-20 Application 1 The fourth reason that Jesus’ resurrection is good news is because it demands a lifesaving response in faith from each of us – Mark 16:11. Have you responded in faith?

A Great Bequest John 20:17-20 Peace Be With You What did Jesus mean by “Shalom”? Never used in a flippant manner It is a serious greeting, not “hello.” Always related in some measure to the thought of peace being God’s gift The New Testament thought of God’s peace is always connected to Jesus’ death and resurrection – Romans 5:1.

Romans 5:1 (ESV) 1  Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

A Great Bequest John 20:17-20 Peace Be With You What is the definition of peace? A relationship between countries calling it “an agreement to end hostilities” Another calls it “public order.” Some call it “harmony in personal relationships.” These are all applicable, but they don’t do justice to what Jesus really meant.

A Great Bequest John 20:17-20 Peace Be With You Jesus was speaking of Peace with God. This is the peace bought by Jesus’ suffering on the cross. It is significant because people are not at peace with God outside of Jesus. Men are at war with God and enemies! But God made peace through the cross!

A Great Bequest John 20:17-20 Peace Be With You Jesus was speaking of the Peace of God. Because of peace with God, we also now have the peace of God – Philippians 4:6-7.

Philippians 4:6-7 (ESV) 6  do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7  And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

A Great Bequest John 20:17-20 Peace Be With You Jesus was speaking of the Peace of God. Because of peace with God, we also now have the peace of God – Philippians 4:6-7. To the Jews, this came to mean spiritual health and well-being. This settles our souls between us and God and, therefore, between each other. Because of Jesus, we can dwell in the eye of the hurricane.

A Great Bequest John 20:17-20 Peace Be With You The Peace of God comes from ….. Having access to the presence of God through prayer – Romans 5:2.

Romans 5:2 (ESV) 2  Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

A Great Bequest John 20:17-20 Peace Be With You The Peace of God comes from ….. Having access to the presence of God through prayer – Romans 5:2. A sure and certain hope for the future (eternal life) – John 14:2-3.

John 14:2-3 (ESV) 2  In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.

A Great Bequest John 20:17-20 Peace Be With You The Peace of God comes from ….. Having access to the presence of God through prayer – Romans 5:2. A sure and certain hope for the future (eternal life) – John 14:2-3. The gift of the Holy Spirit. Being adopted sons and daughters of God. His promise to meet all our needs – Philippians 4:19.

Philippians 4:19 (ESV) 19  And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

A Great Bequest John 20:17-20 Peace Be With You This peace brings about responsibility and a God-given task. The disciples were not at liberty to keep this peace to themselves. They were to become Jesus’ messengers.

A Great Bequest John 20:17-20 Application 2 Have you believed in Jesus as your Savior? Is Jesus your Lord? Have you known and experienced God’s peace so that you can be sold out to be His messenger?
