The Mad Scramble for Africa Berlin Conference (1884) – European officials met in Berlin, Germany to settle rival claims to land in Africa No African nations were invited 20 years later, almost the entire African continent was partitioned out to European countries Ethiopia – was the only nation to resist colonization Europeans used: ● Strong military presence ● Superior Technology ● Trickery and Surprise to divide and conquer
