Definition Four math problems Use the same three numbers -Two addition sentences -Two subtraction sentences Use the same three numbers

Are the same numbers used? Addition Sentences 2, 3, 5 2+3=5 What number is first? 3+2=5 Are the same numbers used? Ask students if you always have the same number for an answer for the addition sentences.

Subtraction Sentences 2, 3, 5 5-2=3 5-3=2 What number is first in both sentences? How are the sentences different? Are the same numbers used? Tell students that the bigger number always goes first in the subtraction sentences. Talk about how the other numbers switch places. Allow time for answers.

What two addition sentences can you write for these three numbers? Now You Try! 8 5 What two addition sentences can you write for these three numbers?
