Year 3 Term 1 Dates for your Diary Topic Work Children will be learning about Mexico. They will create information texts linked to the Mexican landscape, cultures and food. We will learn about a family who live in the village of Tocuaro and find out about what is it is like living in Mexico. Children will be taking part in story writing activities where they will recite, act out, change and create their own stories linked to “The Papaya that spoke”. Art- The class will be designing and creating their own masks based on the Mexican day of the Dead and making Mexican bowls. Music- Children will look at Mexican folk music, identifying features of Mariachi music. Maths This term the children’s learning will focus on number and place value, building on fluency and then applying their knowledge to solving problems. Games- Football, Rugby, Cricket. Children will be developing their skills and playing team games. PE- Gymnastics using apparatus. Dates for your Diary Friday 29th September– Year 3R Seasonal Change Walk Friday 6th October- Year 3F Seasonal Change Walk Wednesday 11th October- Year 3R Cactus Jacks visit (letter to follow). Monday 16th October- Year 3F Cactus Jacks visit (letter to follow). Monday 16th and Tuesday 17th October- Parent evenings. Wednesday 18th October- end of term. PSHE- Our Happy School; we will be learning about working together as a class and why rules are important. RE- Hinduism. The children will be learning about what happens during the festival of Divali and whether the celebrations bring a sense of belonging for Hindus. Science- The children will be learning about skeletons, muscles and the digestive system, how exercise affects us and the importance of a healthy diet. DT- Children will be investigating aspects of a balanced diet and designing a healthy snack. Class Mascot- This term our class mascot will start visiting children’s homes at the weekend. Details will be in his blue folder. ICT- The children will be using ICT to research the topic and explore word processing. Spanish- learning some common words and phrases.
