AP LANGUAGE and composition Is it right for you?
What is it? AP Comp, as it’s commonly called here at RHS, is an English elective. AP Comp stresses the writing skills and critical reading analysis necessary for college success. AP Comp is one of two AP classes offered on-site at RHS (the other is AP U.S. Government). As an AP class, Comp offers the 0.36 GPA boost all AP classes earn.
Who can/should take it? First off: Unlike some schools, you do NOT have to be on the gifted list to enroll in this or any other AP class. I do recommend you have a “B” average or better in your 9th and 10th grade English classes; however, students with lower grades who have a strong interest in the class may meet privately with me to discuss your options. This class is for any college-bound student desiring to develop, strengthen, or improve his or her writing skills appropriate to the college level. As an elective, this class does not replace English 11 or 12, but it can help you with those classes, or for juniors, can help prepare you for Dual English your senior year.
