“confetti” My goal here today is simple…. I want you to think of this presentation as “confetti” Brush off what you don’t want, pick up what you want to keep. or just leave it on the ground…

MY MESSAGE “Born with a moderate hearing loss, I have always been at a disadvantage by society’s terms of hearing. Fitted with hearing aids at the age of thirty years old, I made a conscious effort to use my disability as an advantage in my classroom.” “In essence, I feel that just as my hearing aids are tools which have helped compensate for my hearing loss, I believe computers are tools which help students meet individual academic needs and challenges.”

Writer’s Companion

This is New to me…. So Bear with me!

What is it? It was created by a teacher. Writer’s Companion is a writing program which offers brainstorming, graphic organizers and connecting main ideas in terms of writing paragraphs. It was created by a teacher.

What can it do? Helps students and teachers organize thoughts and paragraphs.

How can it help my students? The main purpose that I have found is the use of graphic organizers help connect the graphic organizers and the written word.

Format

What can it be used for? To help organize thoughts through graphic organizers for research papers, vocabulary and for many subjects. For younger ones, the “Speak Text” can be used to “hear and see” what they have written. (Example: Run on sentences) It can help offer visual and audio guides to the text..

Use Speak text to “hear” their sentences.

Who can use it? Anyone who needs help teaching students to organize paragraphs, understanding main ideas and creating sentences, etc.

You will get handouts with information to download, etc. Where can I get it? Vermilion Teachers have licenses on the server. Others can look at the “Writer’s Companion” Website for details about purchasing it. You will get handouts with information to download, etc.
