They share risk and protective factors and are both social justice issues with patriarchy and oppression as root causes. There are distinctions Yet the way we often do our work and the way the general public understands our work are as two separate issues This is evidenced by two recent reports – SADI & Reciprocal Advancement

Sexual Assault Demonstration Initiative (SADI) Released in 2017 Organizational change & programmatic change at 6 sites over a 4-year period Enhance sexual assault outreach, services, and community partnerships in dual/multi-service programs Found heavy focus on domestic violence, invisibility of sexual assault (Ashleigh) The SADI was funded by OVW to enhance SA outreach, services, and community partnerships in dual/multi-service program through organizational and programmatic change. The project involved 6 programs over a 4-year period and was focused on response and services to survivors, not prevention. Through community assessments, programs found that they were known for their domestic violence services and many community members were not even aware that they provided sexual assault services. “The profound invisibility of the sexual assault work done by these sites was especially remarkable or the four sites that had been doing sexual assault work for more than a decade. That there was so little community awareness, even in those communities, speaks to the dominance of domestic violence work in the eyes of the public.
