New Jersey Driver Testing The Knowledge Test If you fail a written test you have to wait 1 week before you can retest At least 40 out of 50 to pass 80%
Test Requirements Eyesight Health Basic License Applicants: 20/50 CDL License Applicants: 20/40 Health Inform examiner of health problems CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) must carry a medical examiner’s fitness statement & renew it every 2 years
Vision Recheck Periodically the MVC may require a vision recheck of a NJ motorist. License renewal will be permitted upon passing the vision screening.
Road Test The vehicle may not have any obstructions or consoles that prevent the examiner from reaching the foot or parking brakes. Accompanying Driver: Properly registered A vehicle may not be used in the road test line, without a licensed driver in the vehicle

Reasons for Rejection Improper inspection Lack of examiner access to foot brake/parking brake Any defect condition that affects the safe operation of the test vehicle Poor brakes Unsafe tires Missing seatbelts If a motorist fails a road test, you have to wait 2 weeks to retest.
