What? Another Test? Yes, there is one more examination that you have to pass before you can graduate, receive your degree, and qualify for your teaching license. Praxis II: PLT Examination

PRAXIS II: PLT The PRAXIS II: Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT) is required for licensure in the state of South Carolina; therefore, the Spadoni College of Education requires a passing score on the PLT before a degree in M.A.T. teacher education will be issued. Praxis II: PLT Examination

But I don’t want to teach in South Carolina! The Spadoni College of Education does not confer degrees in general education. All of the degrees are tied to teacher licensure in the state of South Carolina. In order to complete our M.A.T. degree program, you must pass this examination. Praxis II: PLT Examination

Where do I register? Like the other PRAXIS examinations, you register for this examination on the ETS website (www.ets.org). Praxis II: PLT Examination

When is the test offered? The test is offered seven times a year. It is your responsibility to access the website and be familiar with the test dates, registration deadlines, and length of time before score reports will be available. Praxis II: PLT Examination

In what semester do I take the test? You must take the test and provide passing scores before you can graduate. When you take the test, be sure to list the South Carolina Department of Education and Coastal Carolina University as recipients of the scores. You may take the PRAXIS II (PLT) during your internship semester, but many interns wish to take it before that point in time. Praxis II: PLT Examination

What if I don’t pass it? Again, like all of the other PRAXIS examinations, passing PRAXIS II (PLT) is required so you must take it again. Praxis II: PLT Examination

Can I graduate if I have not passed the PLT? Your degree will not be complete, your paperwork will not be sent to the South Carolina Department of Education, and you will not graduate if you have not passed this examination. Praxis II: PLT Examination

But can I walk at graduation? You may walk across the stage at graduation. You may order your cap and gown and class ring. You may have your graduation parties and receive graduation presents, BUT you will not have a degree until you have passed the PLT. Praxis II: PLT Examination
