DaVita is the nation’s largest independent kidney dialysis services provider with over 35,000 employees and 1,500 clinics nationwide. DaVita was experiencing significant challenges filling critical nursing positions. And as a result, vacancy rates were around 10% and it took, on average, 60 days to fill these positions. These shortages resulted in significant overtime and contract labor costs. The lack of staff meant that they were unable to treat patients and this impacted growth Davita realize that they had to fix their talent acquisition process. They invested in Taleo Recruiting and Analytics to get visibility into every step of the recruiting process and pipeline. They drove process improvements in the recruiting process using this visibility. It also enabled them to create a culture of accountability (by defining very specific metrics to monitor). Recruiters were held accountable for the “Time to Find” candidates. These metrics were made part of the COO dashboard. In addition a variety of secondary metrics were monitored - The speed with which recruiters responded to candidates, how quickly hiring managers called back on candidates. Davita used this insight to eliminate bottlenecks at almost every step of the process. As a result, vacancy rates dropped by 50% which allowed Davita to eliminate overtime and contract labor costs and increase the number of patient treatments by 200,000 which added $12 million to the bottom line.
