Manufacturing Specification – Due Monday 22nd February 2016 The manufacturing specification is a table that details what your project will be made of, how it will be made and the quality control procedures you will use to ensure an accurate product. Use ICT to draw out the following table. Part Materials Size and Tolerance Quantity Quality Control Front Cover Specific Card / board you have used (give GMS value) Matt/satin/gloss Any finishes on the card / board Type of printing method used Any components used The type of adhesive used. Where will it be used? The exact size in mms of each part. Tolerance. How accurate will you mark / cut. Any allowance for folding / tabs etc. How many of each part / component will be needed. What QC will you use to ensure the quality and accuracy of each part? Assembly method / order Spread 1 / Card 1 Spread 2 / Card 2 Spread 3 / Card 3 Spread 4 / Card 4 Envelopes
Some pointers to help you with your Manufacturing Specification Spraymount – gluing paper / card. High tack. Leaves no lumps. Must use a spray booth Contact adhesive (Uhu) - Better for joining thicker card. Masking tape – for joining greyboard panels. Flexible therefore can hinge. Double sided tape – Useful for joining components together or backing spread pages together. Card – 160-200gsm – can be printed on the colour laser printer. Matt / satin / gloss White card – 250gsm-can be printed on the laserjet colour printer Greyboard – 2mm – Good stiffness and strength for a protective colour but needs covering. QC Laser Cutter – Draw in techsoft 2D. Accurate to 0.25mm. Good for batch production. Repeatable. Cut by scalpel – Use guidelines to accurately mark out where to cut. Maybe drawn in photoshop or techsoft first. use a safety rule. Masking off areas before gluing – Ensures no glue residue on product. Visual Checks – Check for creases, non-alignment, poor quality colour printing etc. Accuracy of score lines – to ensure the mechanism moves / folds in the correct place. Depth of score lines – to ensure the mechanism folds without splitting / breaking.
