Solar Industry Context: PV accounted for largest share of new US electric generating capacity in 2015 Cumulative PV installed in 2010 was 2 GW; in 2015, it was 25GW (!) Community Solar is relatively new In 2014, CS was 66 of 6,201 MW installed Largely dominated by developers who manage projects and retain control/profits PV accounted for largest share of new US electric generating capacity in 2015 at 29.4%. Cumulative PV installed in 2010 was 2 GW; in 2015, it was 25GW (!) Community solar is relatively new- in 2014 it accounted for 66 of the 6,201 MW installed. Community solar is dominated by developers who manage the (mostly large) projects and retain control and profits.

Solar Ownership Options: Individuals and businesses can buy or lease Community solar owned by developers and utilities Most rely on group net metering Non-profit using charitable fundraising Community Group Net Metered with shared ownership and shared electricity Community Supported Solar: Group forms a company to own the PV and sell electricity and eventually the system to a host Individuals and businesses can buy or lease Community solar owned by developers and utilities, most rely on group net metering Non profit using charitable fundraising Community Group net metered w/ shared ownership and shared electricity Community Supported Solar where a group forms a company to own the PV and sell electricity and the system eventually to a host

Community Supported Solar is: A locally owned & controlled solar electric (PV) system with multiple participants A local investment An option with lower up front cost per person A hedge against rising energy costs A clean carbon free power plant A component of local resiliency A local jobs opportunity A source of pride A locally owned & controlled solar electric (PV) system with multiple participants A local investment option An option w/ lower up front $ outlays/person A hedge against rising energy costs A clean carbon free power plant A component of local resiliency A local jobs opportunity A source of pride

Community Power

Monadnock Food Co-Op Roof: After

Keene Co-op Takeaways Up to 25 investors (was 10) can own a PV system and get a return before selling to host The investors need to be accredited and have passive income We figured out the legal issues and offer templates to make it affordable for others Investment, tax and energy dollars are retained in the community
