What it is?* Led by UNICEF Champion of UN Convention on the Rights of the Child Rights to: protection, education, to be heard

Who are UNICEF? UNICEF is the world’s leading organisation working for children and their rights.

Who are UNICEF? UNICEF provides international support for children to access their rights.

What are the UN Rights of the Child?

What are the UN Rights of the Child? The right to protection. The right to education. The right to be heard.

What are the rights?*

Understanding the Convention Rights are: Inherent meaning they are yours because you were born human. Indivisible meaning no right is more important than another one. Inalienable meaning you cannot give them away and no one can take them. Universal meaning for all children under 18), everywhere, all the time. Unconditional meaning they are not a reward and are not dependent on a responsibility or performing an action to get them.

What is a ‘Rights Respecting’ Classroom? Teaching and Learning ABOUT rights (for the whole school community through training, curriculum, topics, assemblies, focus days/weeks, displays) Teaching and Learning THROUGH rights (modelling rights-respecting language)

Why is it important for us? So that we know our rights and show respect to each other. So that we understand and respect other people’s religions, cultures, beliefs and abilities. So that we have a wider and deeper understanding of the world in which we live.

What will happen in our school? Each half term we will learn about a new article from the UN CRC linked to the values in class and in assemblies. Our steering group will meet every 2-3 weeks to create posters, displays and help you learn more about your rights From January, every classroom will have its own charter.

Who will our Steering Group be? Children School staff Governors Parents This will be a special and important role in school.

What is the award? The UNICEF RRSA is based on equality, dignity, respect, non-discrimination and participation.

What is a ‘Rights Respecting’ Classroom? Being ambassadors FOR the rights of others (developing as rights respecting citizens)

What makes a Global Citizen? A global citizen in a rights respecting school is: ‘someone who knows their rights and is committed to working towards a world when everyone can access their rights’. (World’s Largest Lesson)
