Sociological Paradigms Sociology influenced by founding figures Durkheim, Marx, Weber Many thinkers involved in the development of sociology since early 1900’s yet many of the ideas fall into a few paradigms Paradigm: a way of describing the social context in which we live and how human experience is shaped by the broader social context Each founding figure’s ideas are associated with a paradigm Structural Functionalist - Durkheim Conflict - Marx Symbolic Interactionist - Weber Feminist Paradigm - a reaction to the founding figures failure to address women’s issues (Dorothy Smith LO1
