CUE+Humanities – field trip to Mornington Peninsula - August 29. LOGISTICS: Bus leaves South Rd gates at 7.20am and returns by 4.30pm. Two activities: Peninsula Hot Springs and Point Nepean National Park – Tour and Fieldwork You will need: camera (phone is ok), Field booklet, sketching pencil and / or fine liner, bathers, towel, change of clothes and all weather preparedness clothes, runners, hat, sun-cream, lunch and water bottle.

Is tourism a good thing or a bad thing? What makes you say that? Feelings/thoughts/evidence that supports your claim? Do some claims raise some questions or highlight any assumptions? How could we settle it if we had to? Can we decide?

In your Portfolio (paper/ipad to stick in your Portfolio) note down the: what if’s?, issues, questions, factors and/or concerns that might need to be explored further to make an informed decision. These will assist with your inquiries and investigations into the BIG IDEA…

Some things to consider: “How does tourism give me insight into the way in which communities balance resources?” Some things to consider: How do we develop in a sustainable way as a community? Sustainable development is the kind of development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. How do we interact with our environment in a sustainable way? "Ecotourism is ecologically sustainable tourism with a primary focus on experiencing natural areas that fosters environmental and cultural understanding, appreciation and conservation.“ Why is biodiversity important? What do I have to do to be a low impact and sustainable tourist?

Compass Points “How does tourism give me insight into the way in which communities balance resources?” Complete in your Portfolio: E = Excited : What’s the upside? W = Worrisome : What’s the downside? N = Need to Know What additional information would help you to evaluate things? S = Stance or Suggestion for Moving Forward What is your current stance and how will you find the answers and move forward in your evaluation of this idea?

What tasks will we be doing in the field? 1- Field Sketch 2 - Series of 4 photographs 3 - Gathering evidence at the Hot Springs * I see * I think * I wonder

What tasks will I be doing at home in my portfolio? 1- Field Sketch ( Glue in, label, then identify the natural systems) 2 - Series of 4 photographs of Sustainable Tourism (Print off , place onto map labelling direction, location) 3 - Gathering evidence at the Hot Springs * I see* I think* I wonder (List Personal, Social, Economic, Environmental. Using the evidence gathered, write 80 – 100 words on each in your portfolio)

Finally, The skills you will be developing ‘in the field’ will be the skills you will need on the Big Experience. LOOK…LISTEN…THINK…ask questions… ANY QUESTIONS SO FAR??????
