Does the type of light affect the height of rye plants? By: Tyler, Maddy, Sky, and Lindsey

Independent Variable: Black Light, Sun Light Dependent Variable: amount of: water given, light given, the soil, and time of germination Control Variable: Grow Light Picture of the black light with rye plants.

This picture was taken right after we planted our seeds This picture was taken right after we planted our seeds. The sunlight plants took approximately two days to sprout. Hypothesis: We predicted that the rye plants under the grow light would grow the tallest. This is because the light is not only constant and controlled, unlike the sunlight, but it provides more light for the plant, unlike the black light.

Plan/Procedure: Germinate (two days) Planting Water Observe Picture of rye plants in sun light

The Average Height of Rye Plants Under Different Lights

Rye Plants Under Black Light Rye Plants Under Grow Light Rye Plants Under Sun Light

Conclusion: We concluded that rye plants under black light grow the tallest. This is most likely because the black light gave off a lot of heat into a small area. Because of this , the plants coloration was defiantly different. It was not as dark of a green, and the roots were not as supportive. We could not control some of the variables, though. The amount of sunlight was varied every day; snowy, cloudy, sunny, etcetera. Although, the plants under the black light had the tallest plants, the grow light plants were highest on average. However, this is not what we were measuring. Pictures taken on the last day of observations. Show all the plants being compared. Also shows the height of the plants.
