Chapter 6 Objectives Tell why Cherry becomes a spy for the Greasers Relate the decision that Johnny makes Discuss Dally’s advice to Johnny about his parents Describe what the boys find when they get to the church Review the heroic actions of Pony, Johnny, and Dally

Chapter 6 Notes Cherry became the Greaser’s spy because she felt the whole mess was her fault. She said she would testify that Johnny acted in self-defense. Johnny decided he wanted to go back and turn himself in. He was hurt because Dally told him his parents were not worried and hadn’t asked about him. When Dally brought Pony and Johnny back to the church, it was on fire. After they heard yelling coming from the inside, Johnny and Pony went in the burning church to save the kids inside.

Chapter 6 notes continued Pony made it out of the fire just as the roof collapsed. Dally saved Johnny from the fire. Dally, Pony, and Johnny were taken to the hospital by ambulance. A piece of timber hit Johnny in the back and he was burned badly. When Pony saw Johnny at the hospital, he was unconscious. Dally’s one arm was burned badly. Jerry Wood stayed with Pony until Soda and Darry got to hospital.

Notes continued Pony hugged both his brothers and realized Darry cared about him and Darry’s silent fear was losing someone else close to him.
