What is Patent Pro Bono? Program that provides free legal assistance to under-resourced inventors interested in securing patent protection for their inventions
How does it work? The USPTO works with IP law associations and other non-profits to establish regional Patent Pro Bono Programs. The local programs administer the process, screen clients, and refer patent matters to licensed patent attorneys. At the national level, the Pro Bono Advisory Council, a committee of well-known patent practitioners, provide support and guidance to the regional programs.
How to apply? All programs are listed on the Office’s website: http://www.uspto.gov/patents-getting-started/using-legal-services/pro-bono Or, the Federal Circuit Bar Association maintains a clearinghouse, at: http://www.fedcirbar.org/olc/pub/LVFC/cpages/misc/pto.jsp
