Today Vocab check and warm-up Halloween riddles Antigone

Why are graveyards noisy? Because of all the coffin. Why are vampires tough to get along with? Because they’re a pain in the neck. What do ghosts eat on Halloween? Goulash

What do you call a skeleton who won't work? Lazy bones. What do crows give out on Halloween? Tweets What do you call someone who puts poison on people’s corn flakes? A cereal killer

Some scary 2-line stories There was a picture on my phone of me sleeping. I live alone. You get home, tired after a long day’s work and ready for a relaxing night alone. You reach for the light switch, but another hand is already there. I began tucking my son into bed and he asks me, “Daddy, can you check for monsters under my bed?” I look underneath for his amusement and see him, another him, under the bed, staring back at me quivering and whispering, “Daddy, there’s somebody in my bed.” She asked why I was breathing so heavily. I wasn’t.

More scary 2-line stories A girl heard her mom yell her name from downstairs, so she got up and started to head down. As she got to the stairs, her mom pulled her into her room and said, I heard that, too.” I awoke to the sound of the baby monitor crackling with a voice comforting my baby boy. As I adjusted to a new position, my arm brushed against my wife, sleeping next to me. I awoke to the sound of knocking on the glass. At first I thought it was the window until I realized it was coming from the mirror again.

Antigone Theme – what is theme?  The theme in a story is its underlying message, or 'big idea.' In other words, what critical belief about life is the author trying to convey in the writing of a novel, play, short story or poem? ... It is what the story means. Often, a piece of writing will have more than one theme. What is Sophocles trying to tell us about: Women in society? Fate vs. Free Will? Rules and order? Power and it’s corrupting influences?

Hubris - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Lya94YHJa4 (first 2 minutes) What is hubris? And what role does hubris play in this? Who is guilty of it? Is either party more right than the other? When is it wrong to fight for what you believe in? Is it wrong when others get hurt? When is sacrificing for what you believe too much?

What is civil disobedience? Civil disobedience is the active, professed refusal to obey certain laws, demands, and commands of a government, or of an occupying international power.

Scene 2 Write out the argument between Creon and Antigone in modern language.
