accommodations Change that helps students to overcome or work around a disability. Example: Student who has trouble writing can answer a question orally.

Universal design for learning Framework for guiding educational practice that: Provides flexibility in ways information is presented, student responses, and engagement. Reduces barriers in instruction, provide support and challenges, maintaining high expectations for all students.

Comparison/contrast Accommodations Universal Design for Learning Are expected to know the same information as other students. Extra time, small groups or partners, audio tapes, lecture notes, peer tutors, etc. Often confused with adaptations and modifications. Teachers should look at the strengths and needs of each student. Technology tools are infused into lesson planning. Focuses on making the classroom “retrofitted” for all learners.
