“Think outside the Box” Meet Training Requirements

Delivery of the EO Program is critical….Don’t be that briefer

Visualize the most engaging training you have experienced… What made it memorable? “

Road Map What are your Requirements? Barriers Epic Tips & Tools Make a Movement…. To Move Forward! Compliance requirements versus additional proactive training beneficial to organizational effectiveness

Requirements Training & Education Human Relations Education Prevention of Sexual Harassment EO Training Key Personnel Brief Newcomer’s Anti-Bullying/Hazing What are we missing….?

What are your barriers to fulfilling EO training requirements?

“Top 7” #1 Plan #2 Don’t accept “NO” #3 Don’t recreate the wheel #4 Time Management #5 Seize every and all opportunities #6 “Boiler Plates”…what the heck are those? #7 Attitude, Enthusiasm, & Pride

#1 Plan “WIFM” for the boss What training is required vs. “sprinkles” Long Range (incorporate EO into Organizational Strategic Plan) Timing (deployments, inspections) Have clear objectives Have a Plan B! What’s in it for Me?” This is the “buy – in” you need to get from your leadership. Increasing awareness, especially at the leadership level, in EO issues, processes, and impact will substantially mitigate the amount of time they (leadership) will spend on complaint management. Take the time now to resolve issues at lowest level or take substantially more time handling a complaint. How does this effect readiness? What training is actually required! That is the priority. Once you fulfill compliance training requirements, all the other training you do is the sprinkles on the frosting. Keep in mind, “Sprinkes” make the Sunday or banana split and dessert! Collaborate with long range planning to deconflict with upcoming inspections, deployments The more you deliberately plan with vision, learning objectives, value, and impact, the more your leadership will support you and the EO requirements.

#2 Don’t Accept “NO” “No” is not an option Can-Do is Know the “love” language of your commander Have Plan B thru Z Overcome the excuses - Who has heard excuses WHY you can’t complete training? Here is where you need to frame your argument and give all the necessary information, impact, and consequences so leadership can make the most educated decision? Based upon the popular book, “The 5 Love Languages”, just like any relationship, how to speak your leadership’s professional language is critical to successfully communicating the EO Program to meet their respective and often unique unit. For example, learning to talk “civil engineering” might actually help you bridge the communication gap so you can appropriately deliver how a successful EO program will assist them in their readiness that is unique to civil engineering versus operations and security forces. What are some of the excuses you have heard for not completing requirements to ensure all NG members are aware of the EO Program?

#3 Don’t recreate the Wheel Steal, borrow, benchmark! Network!!!!!! What are your ideal practices? Sharing is Caring

#4 Time Management Preparation is key! Detailed and written Drill Schedule Schedule your EO staff training, documentation, and teambuilding

#5 Seize the Opportunity EO Elevator Speech Embed EO message Voice at the Table Councils, CC Calls, Roll Calls If there’s no room at the table, encourage to find a bigger table Who as heard of an Elevator Speech? Come on down, you’re the next contestant on the EO is right!

#6 “Boiler Plates” “Ready to Print” Script, phrases, brand Don’t oversell the EO message Authentic delivery Be Brief, Be Brilliant, Be Gone But Be remembered! Don’t oversell after you have already sold! Tell them what you’re going to tell them, tell them, tell them what you told them! Boiler Plates are common in Journalism. It is informal. phrases or units of text used repeatedly, as in correspondence produced by a word-processing system. Scripted “Boiler Plates” can be a great tool for commanders to deliver the EO scope and purpose!

#7 Attitude is Everything!!!! Humor Take ownership of the program Be persistent… NOTE: advise, sell, but know when to stand down and move on. DOCUMENT! First Responder Support -Don’t shoulder other’s concerns, facilitate them through the process - You’re an advisor, not the judge, jury, and executioner

What are your top tips to share? #8 ____________ What are your top tips to share? Write your own…fill in the blank!

Enthusiasm is contagious…. Way Forward Know your Requirements Identify and Overcome Barriers Be Innovative Make a Movement Enthusiasm is contagious…. So is not having enthusiasm!

Make a Movement In EO Compliance requirements versus additional proactive training beneficial to organizational effectiveness
