Writing!

The Rules of The Fishbowl Mr. Burkhard 2007-2008

Discipline in the Fish Bowl consists of FOUR Steps:

Step One No Computers!

Step Two Long, boring writing assignments that must be completed to pass.

Step Three Letter home to your parent or guardian.

Step Four The Discipline Form

Expectations in the Fishbowl

BELL-TO-BELL Instruction THE NEW THING THIS YEAR! BELL-TO-BELL Instruction

Food and Drink No sticky-type food is allowed in The Fishbowl at any time. Students can have water, but only from enclosed containers.

Music This year, students are NOT allowed to use MP3 players or CD players at Highland High. Sorry. I am supposed to treat them like cell phones. No headphones plugged into your computers to listen to streaming music! I will generally be playing music during work time. Don’t complain about it, it is better than nothing.

Funny Movies! Nope, sorry! Hogs bandwidth. Wastes time. See: Discipline.

Hats and other head coverings. School policy forbids the wearing of a hat in the classroom. If a student has a hat on in the classroom, it will be confiscated. Hats are allowed if we go outside as a class.

Cell Phones No Cell Phones allowed in The Fishbowl. (Especially Camera Phones.) If found, Cell Phones will be taken and given to Principal Ward for redistribution to student’s parents. Refuse to give it up? 1 Day of In-School

Games and Email Access to online games or email in The Fishbowl is strictly prohibited. DISCIPLINE!

Computers You Can’t Touch DO NOT touch my teacher’s computer or the Video Editing Computer without permission! IF you are found messing with teacher’s grades or computers, you could be expelled!

Respecting The Fishbowl Keep your feet off the desks and chairs, don’t throw stuff on the floor. Please don’t mess with my wind chimes, snakes, spiders or other stuff without permission.

IT’S FREEZING IN HERE! Yeah, I know, get used to it. Try a sweater…

Escaping the Fishbowl Sounds awful? You could transfer out of the class… But you need prolly need this class to graduate… However, you can get out once in awhile…

Passes There will be no Passes given to any students during the first 60 minutes of the class. After the first 60 minutes of class, students may use one of their 5 semester Hall Passes. You have to sign for it. Used all your 5 passes, don’t ask again!

Passes- continued Students who refrain from using their Hall Passes for an entire semester will receive a 1 percent bonus to their graded scores for the Semester for each remaining pass. Students leaving the class on a pass for more than 5 minutes will lose all passes for the rest of the semester.

Turning in Assignments Work will be submitted via the Network and Student Folders. Improperly submitted projects will receive a ZERO.

Late Work and Other Annoyances If your assignments are late, even with an excused absence, they will receive an immediate ZERO! Late work will be graded at 50 percent! Make-up work will be entered at full credit.

Work Ethic Up to 50 percent of the grading for any of our projects will be based upon Work Ethic. Hard work will be rewarded in this class. If you turn in crap, I will give you an automatic Zero and your work will be returned to you.

Really Bad Things Any instances of the following will result in immediate loss of all computer access privileges and Expulsion from The Fishbowl:

REALLY BAD THING #1 Accessing inappropriate material on the Internet is forbidden. This includes: Any images of clothing (or lack thereof) that violate the school dress code. Any sites related to violence, guns, alcohol or drugs, unless specifically connected to a school assignment.

WHAT TO DO WHEN “IT” POPS UP? Please turn off your monitor or hit the BACK button of your browser. Please tell me, so that I am aware of the situation. DO NOT call all your friends over, I can detect that sort of thing…

Using the computer to intimidate or harass others. REALLY BAD THING #2 Using the computer to intimidate or harass others. This can include use of your personal computer at home.

REALLY BAD THING #2 Damaging or vandalizing any of the school’s computers or technological equipment.

DOING A REALLY BAD THING? Expect loss of computer privileges, suspension, expulsion, or worse…

What about

The “G” Word

Visitors I hate visitors during class. If you invite a friend into the classroom at any time without permission, expect to be disciplined.

Using The Fishbowl No students will be allowed to access The Fishbowl before school. Tech Lab can be accessed during Mr. B’s planning periods with permission. The Fishbowl will be available after school for Open Computer Use. There will be no more than 20 students allowed at a time.

The Big List of Things That Will Get You In Trouble Eating sticky food or pop. Streaming music or movies. Offensive Language. Drug/Violence related material. Pornography. Online Games and Email. Inviting Guests. Vandalism. Computer Intimidation. Touching Teacher’s computer or video editing computer. Wearing Hats repeatedly. Using Cell Phones. Myspace, Facebook, etc. Using MP3/CD Players.
