South Dakota’s Accountability System 100-point School Performance Index (SPI) Three key indicators with a numeric value are assigned to each school’s performance Values are added together to create a total SPI score out of 100 for each school

Indicators used to create the School Performance Index ELEMENTARY/JH (Grades 3-8) Student Achievement Academic Growth Attendance HIGH SCHOOL (Grade 11 Only) Student Achievement High School Completion College and Career Readiness (ACT, Accuplacer, NCRC)

Academic Achievement The Smarter Balanced Assessment performance is given to students in grades 3-8 and 11 in English Language Arts and Math. Scores are reported as the percentage of students who scored a level 3 or 4 in ELA and Math. Points are earned for Gap and Non-gap groups. Points are weighted according to the size of the group.

Academic Growth Student Growth Percentiles This is based on a formula for projected, three-year growth.

High School Completion Completer Rate Percentage of students in current graduating year who attained a diploma or GED. Four-year Graduation Cohort Rate Percentage of students in current graduating year who graduate with a diploma in four years.

ATTENDANCE Based on the goal that 94% of the students will be in school 94% of the time. SPI shows the percentage of the Elementary/Junior High students who were in school 94% of the days that they were enrolled.
