Health Promotion/Disease prevention in NCD AKHS is currently shifting from providing information on the prevention of communicable diseases to NCD To introduce appropriate NCD interventions, AKHS, Tjk used of the established FM programme Introduction of a package of essential NCDs (PEN) interventions (MoH/WHO) New interventions included methods for the detection of NCDs One component of the NCD programme is the introduction of a breast cancer (N° 01 in the ranking of cancer incidence/mortality in women in Tajikistan) screening programme

cont … Similarly, CVD is the number one cause of mortality in men and women in the age group 30+, and hypertension, smoking, high alcohol consumption and an unhealthy diet are common risk factors Introduction of a package of activities that includes identification of people with risk factors for CVD and those with CVDs Better quality of diagnosis, case management and follow-up Support for adherence and change of health-related behavior Clear guidelines on diagnostic and referral procedures and strengthening of the health management information system for CVD prevention and control,

Health Promotion & Disease Prevention on Breast Cancer Introduce Screening programme with annual Clinical Breast Examination (CBE) for women aged 35+at family health center Making use of the established family medicine programme in GBAO it is proposed to test appropriate breast cancer awareness, early detection Combined with a public awareness programme making use of appropriate messages via the mass media (the local radio and television stations) via female community health workers, women aged 40+ would be encouraged to undergo annual clinical breast examinations by their family physician

AKHS approach Family Medicine AKDN, in collaboration with the government Health Lifestyle Centre Community Health Promoters ( more than 1,000 CHPs) IEC materials (brochures, posters) Health Fairs on NCDs Newsletter “Madadi Sino” Learning and sharing experience visits to the Community Action on Health (Kyrgyzstan) project

Way forward To review existing and use a different health promotion mechanism To use CHPs more in the remote and rural area mHealth - further exploration of mobile technology for dissemination of the health information more frequent TV spots, social media advertising In the long term AKHS will need to collect more information on and prevalence of NCDs to determine impact of HP/DP programming on Hypertension, Ischemic Disease, Diabetes, and Cholesterol.
