… … … How did I get here; almost half way… My PhD 2 years ago 2014 Got 4 years funding from UniOGS Planned graduation Research visit Barcelona Master thesis in Oulu (Syke) Started 3 research project, abandoned 1 And life goes on … … … 2014 2015 2016 2018 A lot of studies Start writing my 1st article 1st conference (Finland)

Where am I now after 4 years Planned graduation Research visit Uppsala (SE) Started 2nd and 3rd paper Started 4th article Research visit Barcelona (ES) 2nd article published Conference (ES) Conf (CZ) And life goes on 2016 2017 2018 1yr Postdoc (UK) Postdoc applications 1st article published Conference (USA) Running out of money http://www.physics.ohio-state.edu

How does it feel right now? Dealing with the end… Workload http://www.physics.ohio-state.edu Exponential function (Wikipedia) Time

The hardships I have faced Plans have changed (projects aborted) Deal with rejection (article wise) and doubt Lost some hair (a bit of stress) The end comes faster than expected Novembers

The cool stuff It was an amazing experience (not over yet) It felt like a real job (responsibilities, autonomy) Internationalisation and collaboration Good support and supervision I got lucky to have 4yr full time funding

Things to keep in mind Plan it well … plans are always changing Travel and make it international Don’t spend your life at the office (relax) Don’t stay alone, you are not alone… Try to start planning the end in advance
