Brief Description of the Innovative Practices Diploma in Watershed Management (DWM) course started in collaboration with JSWM, IGNOU and BAU. Vegetable cultivation especially tomato cultivation in Hazaribagh district in Churchu block by PRADAN. Providing Solar Service Charging Station to beneficiaries through TERI (59% subsidy). Gravity Irrigation System - Identification of artisan aquifer at ridge portion of the catchment, construction of Dam & channelize water to the lower command areas through distribution chamber and under ground pipe line system for irrigation of beneficiaries plot. Problems/ Issue that necessitated the initiatives Grass root level institutions i.e. Watershed Committee, SHG, UG, Federation, etc. should be encouraged to take most of the decisions at watershed level so that most of the conflicts can be resolved. The status of Watershed Committee registration are as follows These Grass Root level Institutions should be linked with financial institutions i.e. NABARD, Gramin Banks, Credit society etc. so that they can handle MIS for SHGs to be made and other projects independently. Staffs / Experts at all level need to be encouraged so that they can be motivated enough to implement the programme successfully. Watershed Committee Total (in nos) Registered (in nos) 928 702 For internal circulation and discussion only

Description of the outcome of the Innovative practices Under DWM Course, majority of the watershed beneficiaries at WC/ SHG/ UG has been enrolled and successfully passed. Further, they are being utilized/ engaged as WDT and Experts at Monitoring & Evaluation level. HYV Tomato cultivation has been practiced in the project areas and it has been replicated in near by project areas. 92 nos of Solar service charging stations has been installed by TERI under IWMP. 50 nos of solar lantern has been provided in each Station. This solar lantern is being utilized as study of children, meeting of the villagers at night, cooking of food at HH level etc. In most of the drainage line where the velocity of runoff water is quite high because of the rolling and undulating topography, a series of Loose Boulder Check Dam/ Gully Control Measures has been constructed which resulted in reducing runoff velocity and soil erosion. 11 nos of gravity irrigation system has been constructed under IWMP & IWDP in Angara, Silli, Ormanjhi, Palkot & Mohanpur Blocks in Jharkhand & 378 Ha of land is being irrigated. Mono-cropped areas has been converted into double/ multiple cropped areas. The list of all the Gravity Irrigation system & its command areas are as follows: For internal circulation and discussion only

For internal circulation and discussion only Efforts taken for Up-scaling/Replication at other sites – Experience sharing Under DWM course, a total of 451 students has been enrolled and 61 candidates has been passed out. They have been engaged for the development of Jharkhand watershed. Tomato cultivation has been replicated in whole Jharkhand areas and a series of marketing network has been established. Keeping in view of sustainability of solar system and its advantage over other system, this system has been upgraded and being used in most part of project areas in different form because it is clean and pure form of energy. An efforts has been made to identify the sites of artisan aquifer in Jharkhand state through remote sensing technology and develop the gravity irrigation system either through IWMP or in convergence with MGNREGA and Water Resource Department. Special provision has been made to treat all the drainage line areas under IWMP in Jharkhand through LBCD/ Gully plugs/ brush wood check dam/ bamboo & wooden logs/ etc and it is being implemented under Soil and Moisture Conservation treatment. Learning regarding process restructuring/ reorganization Although all the innovative activities is being practiced but its pace of implementation is not encouraging. The reason is because of the Delay in Fund flow at Institutional Level. Delay in Fund flow at Project Level. Restructuring of PMKSY (Watershed Development) within the state. Carry forward of Watershed Committee registered bodies. For internal circulation and discussion only
