College Timeline Fall 2017: Narrow list of colleges and create master list Apply to several schools (3-5) by THANKSGIVING Visit the schools that you are interested in. Call the admissions office! Arrange a personal tour/visit or go to an open house. Ask for an application FEE WAIVER! College Applications BE AWARE of DEADLINES!!! Understand the difference between Early Decision, Early Action, and Regular admission Early Action: Non-binding admission; typically apply by early November Early Decision: You are ONLY applying to one school and are committed upon acceptance; typically apply by early November Regular Decision: May have rolling admission or waves of admission---know your deadlines and apply early! Talk to the college admissions counselors to ask about their institution’s policies and deadlines!

College Application: Transcripts Paper (snail mail) Transcript Request You must fill out the RED CASHS Transcript Release Form for EACH school. Attach all additional materials and put in the basket in the student services office waiting area (Mrs. Miller) or in A215 Addressed envelope and stamps Secondary School Report (if applicable) print out from your college Letters of recommendation (if applicable) If you are requesting a counselor letter of recommendation you will also need to complete a Self-Evaluation Form

College Application: Transcripts Electronic (email) Transcript Request Provide your counselor’s email address/contact information when applying online Confirm with your counselor that she has received your college’s email request after you have submitted your application Letters of recommendation, Written evaluation (Common App), and/or Secondary School Report (SENDedu) require you to complete a Self-Evaluation Form so that we have LOTS to say about you! Give at LEAST 2-3 Weeks notice!

Financial Aid APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS!!! Financial Aid Night at CASHS—September 28th, www.pheaa.org (PA Higher Education Assistance Agency) Local FAFSA completion events: CASHS November 6 (RSVP to Mr. Hill) and Wilson College October 9 (by appointment): www.fafsa.ed.gov (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) Begin filling it out after October 1, 2017 Send your FAFSA information to all schools you are considering Ask to speak to a financial aid officer at the schools of your choice about institutional grants and scholarships APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS!!!
