Graduation Requirements Remember: YOU are ultimately responsible for tracking and earning credits towards graduation. Keystone proficiency requirements—complete your Compass Learning! Your unofficial transcript is available on Sapphire! 4.0 credits of English (Proficiency on Literature Keystone) 4.0 credits of Math (Proficiency on Algebra Keystone) 3.5 credits of Social Studies 3.0 credits of Science (Proficiency on Biology Keystone) 1.5 credits of Fit/Wellness (ONLY 1 PIAA waiver) 6.5 credits of Electives 0.5 credits of ICT = 23 total credits

Career/Technology Programs Emphasize preparation for specific careers Complete a certificate program or associates degree Typically completed in 2 years or less Include schools like: Franklin County Career and Tech (Adult programs) Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics - School for Aviation Maintenance & Electronics (Hagerstown, MD) Pennsylvania College of Technology (Williamsport, PA) Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology (Lancaster, PA) The TEMPLE Paul Mitchell School (Cosmetology, Frederick MD) Apprenticeship programs (Construction, Plumbing, Machinist, Ironworking). Community College Open Admissions policy, SATs are not required. Associate degree (2 year) and certification options Can be a transition step to a 4 year College (2 + 2 program) to complete a Bachelors Degree. Cost Savings Transcript Building Local examples include: Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) Hagerstown Community College (HCC)

Colleges and Universities Requirements for SATs or ACTs Admissions requirements vary Visit individual admissions webpages or www.collegeboard.org Offer bachelors degrees that often require 4 years Local options include: Wilson College (small, private, liberal arts college) Shippensburg University (medium public, PSSHE system) Penn State University, Mont Alto campus (large university system with multiple campuses) – priority deadline is November 30th!

College Timeline Fall 2017: Narrow list of colleges and create master list Apply to several schools (3-5) by THANKSGIVING Visit the schools that you are interested in. Call the admissions office! Arrange a personal tour/visit or go to an open house. Ask for an application FEE WAIVER! Create master calendar that includes college application due dates, college fairs, college visits, financial aid deadlines SHIP & PSU Live Application Day—Sign Up Today!

College Applications BE AWARE of DEADLINES!!! Understand the difference between Early Decision, Early Action, and Regular admission Early Action: Non-binding admission; typically apply by early November Early Decision: You are ONLY applying to one school and are committed upon acceptance; typically apply by early November Regular Decision: May have rolling admission or waves of admission---know your deadlines and apply early! Talk to the college admissions counselors to ask about their institution’s policies and deadlines!

College Application: Transcripts Paper (snail mail) Transcript Request You must fill out the RED CASHS Transcript Release Form for EACH school. Attach all additional materials and put in the basket in the student services office waiting area (Mrs. Miller) or in A215 Addressed envelope and stamps Secondary School Report (if applicable) print out from your college Letters of recommendation (if applicable) If you are requesting a counselor letter of recommendation you will also need to complete a Self-Evaluation Form

College Application: Transcripts Electronic (email) Transcript Request Provide your counselor’s email address/contact information when applying online Confirm with your counselor that she has received your college’s email request after you have submitted your application Letters of recommendation, Written evaluation (Common App), and/or Secondary School Report (SENDedu) require you to complete a Self-Evaluation Form so that we have LOTS to say about you! Give at LEAST 2-3 Weeks notice!

Financial Aid APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS!!! Financial Aid Night at CASHS—September 28th, www.pheaa.org (PA Higher Education Assistance Agency) Local FAFSA completion events: CASHS November 6 (RSVP to Mr. Hill) and Wilson College October 9 (by appointment): www.fafsa.ed.gov (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) Begin filling it out after October 1, 2017 Send your FAFSA information to all schools you are considering Ask to speak to a financial aid officer at the schools of your choice about institutional grants and scholarships APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS!!!

NCAA Eligibility www.NCAA.org www.eligibilitycenter.org Be aware of academic and GPA requirements. You must register NOW with the NCAA Clearinghouse. See your counselor to have your transcript uploaded to the eligibility center

Spring 2018…almost there! May 1st – Decision Day! Inform your colleges of your acceptance or rejection of their offer of admission CASHS Decision Day– submit your requests for FINAL transcripts to be sent to your college/university of choice May 2018 – GRADUATION!!! YOU MADE IT!
