Anubis God of Mummification and of The Underworld
Anubis is a man with the head of a jackal-like animal Anubis is a man with the head of a jackal-like animal. His head is black, and his shows his position as god of the dead. There is a statue of him as a full jackal in the tomb of Tutankhamen, and it is very rare that he is depicted as a full male.
FAMILY Anubis is thought to be the son of Ra and of Nephthys. His daughter is named Kasbechet and she helps him in the Mummification process. Anubis is the god of mummification, and the dead on their path through the underworld. FAMILY
The ancient Egyptians referred to Anubis as the "Lord of the hallowed land". They believed the land of the dead was thought to be in the west, this is where they believed Anubis lived. He was generally known as a black jackal-headed man, or as a black jackal. The Egyptians would have noticed the jackals roaming around the graveyards, and so the link between the animal and the dead was formed in their minds.
