Presentation transcript:

BluePrint Project In a group of 2 or 3, you will create two newspaper pages. You are in charge of everything, including stories (1 per person), sidebars, pictures and captions (1 of each minimum) PLUS some elements of advanced (clip file) design. Each group member will write a story & sign up for specific responsibilities.

Selecting a page: each group will choose one News – Events on or off campus, class and club features, politics (newsbites or Hagerty Highlight) Lifestyles – Misc. features, also includes music, movies, places to go, things to do! (sidebar related to a story) Sports – Stories about sports, generally high school related (sidebar related to a story) Centerspread – Like lifestyles, only two pages, more in-depth and with more art. No Opinions (no editorials – If I wanted your opinion, I’d ask for it…)

Points and Due Dates Story Proposal – 15 pts., due at the beginning of class: Thursday/Friday April 3-4 Story topic and section One paragraph describing the angle Several basic facts about your story (make sure you interview/research for these) 20 interview questions List of possible photo ideas List of possible sidebar ideas NOTE: #3, #5 and #6 need research, not just brainstorming

Points and Due Dates Dummy and story plans – 25 pts., Thurs/Fri April 3-4 by END OF CLASS Make rough sketch of page with stories & sidebar, plus who is doing what. ONE PER GROUP Make sure that you follow modular design and add in several advanced/clip file techniques. Dummy lists section name, group names, each person’s story and other resp. Story plans (one per person) are what I checked at beginning of class, but turned in & stapled to dummy.

Points and Due Dates, cont. Interviews Due – 25 pts., Wednesday, April 9 5 people/10 questions or 10 people/5 questions minimum (nobody you’ve interviewed before) Rough Story - 50 pts., Wed/Thurs, 4/16 - 4/17. Includes first rough with peer-completed checklist, and second rough (with edits made) Rough Page - 50 pts., Wednesday, April 23 Final Page - 200 pts. (100 pts. Story, 100 pts. Page), Wednesday, April 30

Responsibilities Story (most likely a feature) Needs a headline (subheadline optional), must follow 10 rules, fit on page, have lots of facts/quotes, etc. Other responsibilities: InDesign, Photo/Caption, Sidebar (box), Editing
