What types of moon phases have you seen? When? Science IAN- pg 3-6 Paste/glue in “Waning and Waxing” Write down left/right and fractions of moon phases.

Moon Phases Lab Using the large and small foam balls try to figure out how the moon has phases. (3 minutes) Think about how the moon moves around the Earth. Think about how the Earth moves.

Moon Phases Lab-Questions answer questions into Science IAN pg 3-9 What causes the moon to have phases? What is the difference between a New moon and a Full Moon? Why do you think we always see the same side of the moon?

What were our objective for the day? TLW demonstrate the phases of the moon using a model of the Earth, Sun and moon. TLW be able to tell the difference between waxing and waning.

Moon phases Lab Picture IAN-pg 3-8 Draw a picture of the Sun, moon, and Earth in each of the phases listed below… Full Moon New Moon 1st quarter moon Last/3rd quarter moon

“What is the moon like?” article Fold pg 3-7 for Cornell notes. Jigsaw article Read assigned section and write down important facts onto index cards provided. Read what each person wrote down, circle what is said more than once. Write down what to share with the class in IAN Share with the class. Write down what others share in IAN

Lunar Phases

Why do we see the moon go through phases? What is the difference between a New moon and a Full Moon? What does waxing mean? What does waning mean?

Today’s Objectives- Remember what they were? TLW demonstrate the phases of the moon using a model of the Earth, Sun and moon. TLW be able to tell the difference between waxing and waning. Did we do achieve these objectives?
