Does anyone know where Victoria is Does anyone know where Victoria is? Well it’s on the West Coast of Canada and it is located on Vancouver Island in British Columbia. You can see we are actually very close to the United States of America. On weekends, students plan trips to Vancouver, Seattle, or even just explore Vancouver Island. In the summer time, we have great weather. It is usually 20 to 25 degrees Celsius on average.

About Victoria, BC Capital of British Columbia, with a population of 85,000 (greater Victoria 367,000) City of Gardens Seventh best city in the world and friendliest city in Canada (by Condé Nast) Video about Victoria You may think that Vancouver is the capital of BC but it is actually Victoria! The building you see in the photo is our legislative building right next to the inner harbour which is a popular tourist destination. Some interesting facts about Victoria - (Read points from the slide and add anything else) - Largest city on Vancouver Island - City of Gardens – Victoria is famous for its hanging baskets and its world-renowned gardens and parks such as Butchart gardens and Beacon Hill park - 7th best city in the word and friendliest city in Canada

Activities you can do in and around Victoria Hike Mount Doug Go whale watching Explore Sidney night market Visit Butchart Gardens As you saw in the video, there is tonnes to see and do in Victoria! Among other things, you can hike Mt Doug and see some amazing views! You can go whale watching, explore Sidney night markets and visit Butchart Gardens. As part of the summer program, our past students have had a chance to experience these activities. Our students really enjoy the Mt Doug hike (photo with the flag), the photo on the top right is at Butchard Gardens, the bottom left is at Sidney night market with lots of amazing food! And the bottom right is of the whale watching cruise. Our students love taking photos of the orcas and sometimes you might even see some baby orcas too!

As you can see, Victoria is a very exciting place to spend your summer As you can see, Victoria is a very exciting place to spend your summer. I’ll now give you a quick introduction to UVic, the largest university on Vancouver Island. You can see from this aerial shot that it is in a beautiful location. You are a 15 minute walk to the Pacific Ocean. The campus is very green with lots of walking trails. We do have lots of deer on campus!

Rankings University of Victoria Ranked in the top 200 most international universities in the world (2016) 2nd most comprehensive universities  in Canada by Maclean's magazine Gustavson School of Business AACSB and EQUIS accreditation MBA program is ranked in the top 50 in North America Both UVic and the Business School, through which the summer programs are taught, are very highly ranked (read rankings off slide) The reason why were have listed our MBA ranking is that our summer program faculty are regular MBA and Bcom lecturers and so you will be learning from recognized experts in their field.

International Summer Institute for Business Management (ISIBM) We offer 2 programs, 1 for both undergraduates and postgraduate and another program for only postgraduates. Our first program is the ISIBM program which is for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

ISIBM – quick facts Offered annually since 1999 with participants from 26 countries Intakes July – 4 weeks Aug – 3 weeks Open to any currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate/masters students Open to both business and non-business students Study business communication, international business, entrepreneurship and service management (read from slide) Over 1000 students

ISIBM - modules Module 1—required, equivalent to 3.0 North American credit* Business Communication 39 lecture hours and academic projects Module 2—required, equivalent to 3.0 North American credit* Entrepreneurship, Service Management, and International Business The summer institute is designed around the natural path of a business. First, you look for opportunities, evaluate them and choose one. That’s entrepreneurship – launching the business.   Then you want to establish that business and make it sustainable. The best way to do that is through excellent customer service, or Service Management. Finally, to expand or grow the business, you want to think beyond your borders- which is where International Business comes in. Throughout the program you receive a solid foundation in presentation skills and knowing how to communicate with others and so you learn skills in Business Communications *Speak with your university to confirm that credits are recognized

Summer Graduate Business Studies (SGBS) Our postgraduate program offering is the Summer Graduate Business Studies. This is a photo of our 2016 cohort in butchart gardens.

SGBS – quick facts Offered annually since 2013 4-week intensive program, intake in June Focusing on the areas of Global Strategy, Cross-Cultural Management and Social Entrepreneurship Open to current graduate/masters-level students only Open to both business and non-business students This program was developed from the success of the ISIBM program in mind. The material is some of the same material that our own MBA students learn from. The program is equivalent to three graduate level courses. Like the ISIBM program, it is an intensive program. But it’s intensive because you are experiencing this high quality education as well as doing many activities.

SGBS - modules Modules Global Strategy - Develop an understanding of doing business in a global environment Cross-Cultural Management - Understand the complexity and dynamics of doing business across national borders Social Entrepreneurship – classroom learning on basic concepts followed by field visits to a variety of social enterprises Each module has 32.5 contact hours and is equivalent to 2.5 North American credits* (Read off slide) *Speak with your university to confirm that credits are recognized

SGBS - fees and dates SGBS Intake date June 18 – July 13, 2018 Fees CAD$5000 + 5% GST Deposit CAD$600 + 5% GST Registration deadline June 1, 2018 (Read off slide – emphasise that places are limited)

International Winter Institute for Business Management (IWIBM) Business Management classes focusing on Business Communications and Service Management along with extracurricular activities, company visits and an educational ski trip to Mt. Washington Experience Winter in Canada while attending the International Winter Institute for Business Management (IWIBM) 2019 dates and details coming soon! – Stay tuned!

Summer programs FAQs 1. English Language – recommend TOEFL scores or self assessment 2. Student Visa – No student visa required, but may be required to obtain a temporary resident visa. Students must have an eTA to enter Canada 3. What is included in the fees – accommodation, reading material, etc 4. A letter of completion and an official academic record of grades English language- students are recommended to have a minimum TOEFL score of 500 (paper-based) or 173 (computer-based) or an equivalent English language level course. If you do not have a TOEFL score or its equivalent, please complete the online registration form including the last section, which is an English language self-assessment form. We don’t have a mandatory score requirement because the program is not this is not an English language program. So it is up to the student to assess their abilities bearing in mind that there is a lot of group work so they will have to communicate in English. Visa – read off slide Depending on your program, your fees cover an array of things.

Our ISIBM program has been running since 1999 and our SGBS program has been running since 2013 so we have had many international students from all over the world come to study these programs. In the next 3 slides, you’ll have a chance to meet 3 of our students, Sofiia and Simon who were ISIBM students and Fabricio who was an SGBS student. See what they most enjoyed about these programs and what advice they have for you!

Sofiia Romanovska Ukraine (ISIBM) “Having had this international study experience, I realized, there are so many incredible people from other countries that I want to meet and there are so many things I want to see. I believe that an international study experience is an incredibly valuable thing for a student, and it really forces you to think outside the box.” Sofiia is now enrolled in a Masters of Science at University of Victoria Sofiia came to study with us in 2016. (read profile off slide) Sofiia enjoyed her experience at UVic that in Sept 2017 she returned to study her masters of science.

Simon pictured left Simon Steininger Austria (ISIBM) “I think that Victoria is one of the most beautiful cities of Canada. I was overwhelmed by the Canadian people who were extraordinarily friendly, helpful, open-minded and hospitable.” Simon is 22 from Austria and he is studying Economics. Here is what he had to say about Canada and Victoria (Read off slide) Simon really enjoyed the combination of studying, getting to know people from different nations and exploring an unknown and exciting country. Fabricio pictured centre Fabricio Alvares Machado Brazil (SGBS) “This immersive and challenging experience helped me develop critical thinking about modern perspectives on how to do business in a globalized world and how these businesses impact our lives”. Fabricio is from Brazil and participated in the 2017 SGBS program. He is a mechanical engineer but was looking to study a business program abroad. (read profile off slide) and he enjoyed how this program helped him grow his critical thinking skills. Fabricio pictured centre
