AS/HUMA 1300 9.0 Faculty of Arts Take-Home Exam AS/HUMA 1300 9.0 Faculty of Arts

The Take-Home Examination 1. This year the take-home exam replaces the formal exam at the end of the winter term. 2. This allows students with work and travel obligations to complete the course in a more flexible format outside of a scheduled exam period. 3. The examination will be distributed in lecture on May 6. 4. The exam can also be downloaded from this website. The Take-Home Examination

Writing The Take-Home Exam 1. The exam will test students’ knowledge of the material discussed in the course after April 1, 2009. 2. Students are expected to make detailed reference to material used in the course after April 1 and at least ONE external source. 3. Students may refer to and cite lecture notes although these will not count as part of the minimum source requirements. Writing The Take-Home Exam

Writing The Take-Home Exam (cont.) 4. The exam is divided into Sections A and B, and students are required to answer one question from each section. 5. Material used to answer the first question cannot be used to answer the second question. 6. Please read the instructions for each section carefully, as the requirements are different. 7. Answers should be organized as formal essays with clearly developed arguments and scholarly citations. Writing The Take-Home Exam (cont.)

Returning the Take-Home Exam 1. Students are required to complete and return the take-home exam by May 27, 2009. 2. Students returning exams on May 27 should deliver them to Professor Andrea Davis in 240G York Lanes before 4pm. 3. Students who wish to return exams earlier should deliver these directly to their tutorial leaders. 4. Students who will be out of the country or unable to deliver exams on campus should make arrangements with their tutorial leaders or the course director for the timely return of exams. 5. No exams will be accepted after May 27. Students who have documented reasons for missing the deadline must contact the course director and go through a formal petition process.
